The Australian version of The X Factor mirrors the UK format. The show aims to find talent over the age of fourteen in four categories: Under 25 Boys, Under 25 Girls, Over 25s, and Groups.[2] In the original 2005 series the categories were the same except the under 25 categories for male and female were in one category. In 2011, a new format was introduced to the show where the new minimum age for contestants is aged 14.
